Out and About Wright Hits Seattle

The beautiful Pacific Northwest coast was the perfect location for Out and About Wright, the Conservancy's annual spring tour of regional works from Wright and other modern architects. Based at the Hotel Monaco in the heart of downtown Seattle April 4-6, Out and About Wright took guests from all over the country on a one-of-a-kind tour that included Wright's Chauncey Griggs House (1946) in Tacoma, Brandes House (1952) in Sammamish and Tracy House (1955) in Normandy Park, as well as several private homes by contemporary architect George Suyama.

On Friday, April 4, the Conservancy's Leadership Circle members and board of directors attended an evening reception at the extraordinary Olson Kundig-designed lakefront house of Barney Ebsworth and viewed his world-class collection of 20th century American art. On Saturday, Grant Hildebrand, professor emeritus at the University of Washington Seattle and the author of Suyama: A Complex Serenity, delivered a lecture in the Rem Koolhaas-designed Seattle Central Library prior to Saturday's house tours, which culminated in a reception at the Jon Shirley House, a Suyama-designed home that hosts another major modern art collection. Sunday's house tours also included a stop at the Arthur Erickson-designed Tacoma Museum of Glass.

Thanks to all who attended this fantastic event, and look for details soon about the next Out and About Wright event in Indianapolis in spring 2015.
